Finding time to take care of yourself is essential for your health and overall well-being.

As a busy mum, it can be difficult to practice self-care as part of your daily routine. You may have little time in your busy schedule to enjoy self-care activities like exercising, taking a bath, or meditating.

This can lead to feeling drained, unmotivated, and in time overwhelmed with unwanted stress.

However, there are ways to practice self-care activities in your busy schedule with the following tips to successfully implement and achieve Self-Care Activities in your life.

Make Yourself a Priority

My first tip is to make yourself a priority.

As Mums, we often put everyone else first, and believe me I am guilty of this too.

Getting in the habit of setting aside time for yourself is a great way to feel energized and refreshed.

Remember it’s not selfish to take some time for yourself in order to be the best person you can be as your family will see the benefits too.

Make Self-Care Activities a part of your Schedule

Making a schedule for your day can help you to organise and prioritise the tasks you have on for that particular day, week, or month depending on your scheduling technique.

Using tools like a Diary or Journal can help to achieve this and to help this become a habit to keep. Having a system to record your tasks, events, birthdays, and school activities can ensure nothing is forgotten and you have time to fit everything in without becoming stressed, overwhelmed, or forgetting altogether.

Set Personal Goals for Self-Care

By scheduling your day can help to ensure you establish your goals, a way to track them, and a way to achieve them in your set timeframe. This is also a great way to assess them as you have them recorded to reference back.

Once you have set your goals, you can begin to set up timeframes to work toward them.

For example, you could set an alarm five or ten minutes earlier than your child’s usual wake-up time. This way, you can have a little bit of downtime before the kids wake up.

You could even set up a FaceTime with a friend during that time for some social time.

Self-Care Activities

Self-care doesn’t have to be expensive nor does it have to be time-consuming.

The commercial industry likes to make it seem like it costs a lot of money. This is definitely not the case. You can enjoy self-care activities that doesn’t cost a thing.

Self-care is all about what makes you happy, what you enjoy, and activities that help you slow down and unwind. Many self-care activities can be achieved without an expensive price tag.

It’s important to remember that self-care isn’t selfish.

By taking the time to do things for yourself, you’re making yourself more effective at meeting the needs of yourself and others.

You may have to use a little bit of multitasking to sneak in your self-care activities, but the effort will pay off in the end.

Essential Self-Care Activities

Healthy Food

Healthy eating is essential for maintaining a healthy balanced lifestyle.

Eating healthily by including a balanced diet of the recommended daily intake made up of the 5 food groups including vegetables, fruit, protein, whole grains, dairy, and healthy fats can help ensure your body is at its optimal best.

By eating healthier, can help promote better health and well-being, and reduce your risk of diet-related conditions including chronic disease and other health effects.

Exercise Regularly

Exercising regularly can help to reduce your risk of developing serious health conditions like obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and blood sugar issues. Exercise can also be a way to destress and release endorphins.

Making time to exercise and work out can be achieved more effortlessly when you choose an activity you enjoy.

For example, if you love nature or the beach, try taking a walk each day as part of your daily self-care activity.

Choosing an activity you enjoy will help to ensure you keep it up and before you know it, it will become a habit without much thought.

Make Sleep a Priority

Sleep is an essential part of keeping your health, mind, and body healthy.

All elements including your health, mind, and body rely heavily on sleep as sleep helps in repairing your body and gives you a chance to rest.

Sleeping also ensures you have the energy to carry out your day, helps you to think clearly, can improve your memory, and can help you to concentrate better.

Self-Care Activities to Incorporate

There are so many ways to incorporate self-care activities into your day.

Firstly, find an activity that you enjoy and gives you all the positive benefits that make you happy, relieve stress, and what will help make you feel at your best after.

Take the time to experiment with different self-care activities to ensure you find the right ones.

Some ideas for self-care activities I have found to be beneficial are below.

Mindfulness

Having a daily mindfulness practice is a great way to improve your health and well-being.

Practicing mindfulness is a powerful tool for problem-solving and can help you develop better relationships with others.

Practicing mindfulness can help you to become more aware of your thoughts and emotions and enable you to understand them.

Mindfulness can be used in any situation and can help you find relief from stress and chronic health conditions.

Take a Relaxing Walk

Taking a walk as part of your daily self-care can be beneficial for helping to clear your mind and alleviate stress.

Walking in nature or on the beach for example can help to enlighten your 5 senses by being in the environment by the way you see, hear, taste, touch, and smell.

Walking outside can also help to increase:

Relaxing Bath

Taking a relaxing bath can be a simple and easy task to help achieve your self-care goals.

Though this self-care activity may seem simple, the benefits are endless.

Mental benefits include:

Meditation

Meditation can have similar positive benefits as yoga and is just as good for your health both physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Mediation can include activities such as meditation walks, breathing exercises, relaxation techniques, and practicing mindfulness.

Find a Hobby

Finding a hobby is a great way to spend some time to yourself, unwind from your daily routine, and help relieve any stress that may be building.

It’s important to find a hobby that you enjoy, this way you can be assured you will achieve self-care and get the most out of the experience.

A Day with Friends

I cannot stress enough how important conversation is for your mental health, along with friendships is a powerful thing for your health, mind, and body!

Not only does having a friendship give you connection, love, and attention, but it also provides you with the ability to relax, build self-confidence and self-worth.

A Meal Out

Not having to cook a family meal and having the night off, I’m all for it! Who is with me on this?

Going out for dinner as a family can have a bigger impact on your overall well-being than you may realise.

Taking time out as a family to talk and socialise together, catch up on how everyone’s day has been, and debrief can have a powerful impact on the whole family.

Journaling

Creating a routine for writing down your feelings and thoughts can help you clear your mind, become self-aware of certain triggers, and a way to better control them.

Journaling can also be an outlet for stress and help improve your organisation and productivity, and can also help improve your memory.

This list of journal ideas is just the beginning of what you can record as you journal through each day!

Self-Care Activities – Final Thoughts

Taking care of yourself is one of the hardest things to do, especially when you are the backbone of the family.

Finding time to enjoy self-care activities can be achieved with some thought and planning.

Spending time doing things you enjoy will help you feel better, feel energised, and can help with managing stress and be a positive outcome for the whole family.

I hope these tips and self-care activities have helped and inspired you to schedule some much-needed self-care in your life!
